To Encourage the feminine heart along lifes journey

Walk Towards Easter Series.2.

“…… You lack only one thing.” He told him. ” Go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow me.” At this the mans face fell, and he went sadly away because he had many possessions. Mark 10:21-22
Q. What does your heart treasure most of all , could you give something up that was important to you ?
I had to sit for a while before I began to write and ask myself the question……What have I had to give up, really give up, part with or go without in order to follow Jesus ? Honestly……..I was stumped! The conclusion I arrived at after much thought and silent debate with myself was NOTHING!
I’m not sure how I felt about that startling self revelation . Is it good or bad that I’ve not really had to sacrifice anything ?
Maybe I was focussing on the wrong thing. Material possessions come fairly easily in our society, we live in relative affluence our needs and for the vast majority of us….our wants, are more than catered to. But what about my time? Time is the precious commodity of the 21st Century. We are all short of it. There’s never enough time to do all the things we need, or think we need, to do. The catch phrase of today is ” I’m just too busy!”Β
Could this be where we are placing our treasure, in our time and what we use it for?
Our time is spent chasing the dollars to facilitate our lifestyles, advancing our business profiles and profits, furthering our careers, building grand dwellings and enjoying luxurious holidays.
All these things in and of themselves are not wrong, but it’s the importance and priority we place upon them .
” Where ever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will be also.” Luke 12:34
We are given this assurance ,” He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” Luke 12:31
So will you say yes when He asks you for your time, to place His purpose as your priority, or will you turn away saddened because time is your treasure and you are just too busy?

  1. I would suppose that if we listen carefully God does call us to give up in some area to make more time for Him in some way… Diane

  2. What a thought provoking post and inspirational testimonies! Thank you for sharing. πŸ™‚

People seem so busy nowadays, that they don’t take the time to “stop and smell the roses.” I think time is one of the most important things we can give to God; as the lack of time we take out is what keeps us distracted. We just need to stay focused. πŸ™‚

  3. This was such a great post for me personally. Thank you! I also feel I haven’t sacrificed anything for our Lord, although at one time I was tested on this very issue.

Remember the scene in Lord of the Rings, in which the beautiful queeen elf was tested as to whether she could resist taking the ring and she passed the test? Well there was a time when my husband felt sure he was going to be offered a Christian teaching position overseas but it would mean giving up our two little dogs.

Would I be willing to give up our beloved pets I heartbreakingly wondered? Well after a lot of secret crying, pain and prayer, I acccepted the fact that although I dearly loved my animals, I did indeed love Christ more. I felt at peace and knew someone would love them as much as we did because God only wants what’s best for us.

I was willing to give them up for the Lord. Wham! That door closed and I felt just like LOTR! God was testing me and thankfully I had passed the test. Now I know whatever the Lord requires of me, I also know He will give me the strength to endure. Praise God for His everlasting support.

    • Another wonderful testimony, thank you so much for sharing. It is truly incredible how He works, sometimes the very thing we hold dear and think we must give up He chooses to allow us to keep. Obedience is always rewarded πŸ™‚

  4. I have been living out this very thing. Several years back I gave up everything for Him and it was the most difficult thing I have ever done! He provides everything that I need from day to day, I just count on it and He hasn’t failed me yet. I continue to have to walk in obedience daily and sometimes give up more….but I know that whenever He asks me to give away something that I have treasured, He will fill that space with a new treasure….and it is good!

    • What an incredible testimony, thank you so much for sharing. You are so right , He always replaces the things or time we give up with something much much better πŸ™‚
