To Encourage the feminine heart along lifes journey

Walk Towards Easter Series.2.

“…… You lack only one thing.” He told him. ” Go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow me.” At this the mans face fell, and he went sadly away because he had many possessions. Mark 10:21-22
Q. What does your heart treasure most of all , could you give something up that was important to you ?
I had to sit for a while before I began to write and ask myself the question……What have I had to give up, really give up, part with or go without in order to follow Jesus ? Honestly……..I was stumped! The conclusion I arrived at after much thought and silent debate with myself was NOTHING!
I’m not sure how I felt about that startling self revelation . Is it good or bad that I’ve not really had to sacrifice anything ?
Maybe I was focussing on the wrong thing. Material possessions come fairly easily in our society, we live in relative affluence our needs and for the vast majority of us….our wants, are more than catered to. But what about my time? Time is the precious commodity of the 21st Century. We are all short of it. There’s never enough time to do all the things we need, or think we need, to do. The catch phrase of today is ” I’m just too busy!”
Could this be where we are placing our treasure, in our time and what we use it for?
Our time is spent chasing the dollars to facilitate our lifestyles, advancing our business profiles and profits, furthering our careers, building grand dwellings and enjoying luxurious holidays.
All these things in and of themselves are not wrong, but it’s the importance and priority we place upon them .
” Where ever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will be also.” Luke 12:34
We are given this assurance ,” He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” Luke 12:31
So will you say yes when He asks you for your time, to place His purpose as your priority, or will you turn away saddened because time is your treasure and you are just too busy?

Well, it’s that time of the year again…..January…….New Year Resolutions.
We’ve all made them, in the excitement and anticipation of a fresh start, we pledge ourselves to pursuing the promises we have made to better our person and life. And we all know where those lofty ambitions culminate, in disappointment and overwhelming feelings of failure……yet again.
What does your New Year Resolution list look like ?
What does it encompass and where does God fit in the order of things?
Is it all about you and your capacity to change, improve and motivate yourself? What is at the top of your list and where will your help come from?
In Haggai 1:5-7 God asks the question…….This is what The Lord Almighty says: Consider how things are going for you! You have planted much but harvested little. You have food to eat but not enough to fill you up. You have wine to drink but not enough to satisfy your thirst. You have clothing to wear but not enough to keep you warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! This is what The Lord Almighty says: Consider how things are going for you!
Perhaps the reason our Resolutions end up on the heap of disappointment is not because they are wrong or unworthy of success, but because we have them in the wrong order !
Where does your help come from? Are you running your life on empty, where are you sourcing your fuel?
Rearrange your list , first and foremost place God at the top. His word will fill you to overflowing, an unending fuel supply. Pray about the areas in your life that need an overhaul, Worship Him and let your dreams and aspirations be known, Give of yourself to Him and others and your mounting heap of disappointments will begin to diminish as you live in His strength and not your own.
” Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and Thank Him for all that He has done.” Philippians 4:6
For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. Philippians 4:13
Let this be your New Year Resolution, its a sure winner.

” Friends love through all kinds of weather……” Proverbs 17:17 The Message
One of the things I love about the festive season, Christmas, is the motivation to catch up with friends where the business of life has intruded upon quality time. As another year draws to a close, and the beautiful spirit of this special time sinks into our being we are reminded of the true purpose of life. Relationship . We stop, and pause, pondering over the year spent. Who has shared our journey, who has travelled in a different direction, who have we lost sight of along the way ?
Just this week I was able to touch base with a special friend. Our lives have taken a very different path and our once weekly catch – ups have been all but non- existent . Work commitments and family responsibilities taking precedence.
An evening of coffee and cake ensued. We laughed and talked, filling each other in on all the happenings. The highs and lows, family, work , church and our spiritual walk. In those few short hours we were able to nurture our friendship. To re-connect and strengthen our relationship. We’ve been through a lot together, shared some of the darkest and most difficult periods, navigated seasons together , and experienced fun adventures. She is my Sista , our paths crossed, through His divine planning in order that we may DO life together. Learn from one another, encourage one another, and sometimes bring one another into check.
Friendship, true friendship lasts through all of life’s twists and turns, forges through hardship, misunderstanding, separation of time and distance and takes advantage of momentary intervals to invest in relationship.
” Friends come, and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family.” Proverbs 18:24
Reach into your heart, look into the special place where the emotions of friendship reside. Is there someone you are impressed to re-connect with, have you neglected to nurture a bond, do you need to forgive and mend a bridge ?
Friendship is not so much about what we can receive but what we can give. To contribute to another’s journey in an encouraging and positive way.
Don’t wait until tomorrow , be a friend today.
” The wrinkles of friendship are fine creases left by years of sharing tears and laughter- they are lines that add beauty and grace to this wonderful gift from God…….reminding us of the journey we could not have traveled alone. ”
– Whispers of Friendship, Barbour Publishing.
