Walk Towards Easter . 31 .
‘ but the angel said, ” Do not be so surprised. You are looking for Jesus, the Nazarene, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He has been raised from the dead! Look, this is where they laid His body.” Mark 16:6
Q. How is the physical resurrection of Jesus a game changer ? How does it challenge you to respond to Jesus ? What happens next?
Can you imagine the excitement , the elation , in finding that Jesus was not in the tomb! After the total devastation and grief at His death, the waves of doubt as to whether or not He truly was the Messiah, to be met by an angel proclaiming ” He is Risen !”
Surely the penny must have dropped at this point, He raised others and now He himself had been raised . Jesus had conquered death, once and for all. His body was gone, it was truth. The magnitude of all that had transpired was beginning to unfold, the dawn of a new understanding, new life, new hope, salvation.
This same, incredible saving power is available to us today. All we need to do is accept it. Say yes to Jesus, acknowledge His sacrifice, invite Him into our hearts and then live. Live in the joy of our salvation.
‘ Jesus came and told his disciples, ” I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit……………And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. ‘
Jesus commissions us to share, to share the joy of our salvation, to bring others to a knowledge of the incredible life changing power of
Our Saviour King.
Walk Towards Easter . 20.
Then the high priest asked him, ” Are you the Messiah, the Son of the blessed God?” Jesus said, ” I am, and you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at God’s right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven.” Mark 14:61-62
Q. Who do you think Jesus was? How do you respond to Jesus’ extraordinary claims about Himself ?
Much debate has raged over the person of Jesus.
Some say He was a fraud,
Some say He never existed , that He is fiction, fairytale or legend,
Others say, ” Oh yes, he lived, he was real, but he was just a man!”
Some say He was mad, and still others that He was a charismatic leader and teacher of His time……but still , just a man!
Those of us who know Him, who walk with Him, talk with Him, and have an personal relationship with Him, whose lives He has changed and whose souls He has rescued, say ” Yes, He is the Son of Man!”
Life testimonies bear witness to His validity, miracles and wonders attest to His name, the redemptive power of His story, a life…His life that altered the course of history………….not just a man……….The Son of God………Jesus our Saviour.
Walk Towards Easter. 12.
Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with great power and glory. And He will send forth His angels to gather together His chosen ones from all over the world – from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. Mark 13:26-27
Q. What expectation does Jesus set up with these words? How does Daniel enhance the picture? ( Daniel 7:9-14) How should we live in light of this promise?
Can you imagine being gathered up by an angel, an angelic being. Close your eyes and allow your mind to become engulfed in the picture of this incredible moment. Multitudes swept up to meet Jesus in the clouds. Pause and meditate on this beautiful image……………………………………………
In Daniel we read of a judgement , but still there is the beautiful picture of Jesus coming with the clouds of heaven. The wages of sin is death, but then there is Jesus.
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He (even) gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. John 3:16 Amplified
So how should we live in light of this promise?
To be loved in this manner……..that our Father in heaven would sacrifice His own Son………live as though there is no tomorrow……….
Do what is right, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. Micah 6:8
Walk Towards Easter. 9.
When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the merchants and their customers. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the stalls of those selling doves, and He stopped everyone from bringing in merchandise. Mark 11:15-16
Q. What offended Jesus? How might you offend Jesus?
” My Temple will be called a place of prayer for all nations, but you have turned it into a den of thieves.” Mark 11:17
Why was Jesus so angry? It wasn’t simply the fact that they had turned the Temple into a market place, that was bad enough. He refers to it as a den of thieves. The merchants were profiteering from the people, they were dishonestly trading. In other words, they were ripping their customers off ! This was supposed to be a place where worshipers came to worship, seek God , pray and learn His ways. To fellowship with one another, a place where all should be treated with love and respect.
Could it be that in our own places of worship we offend Jesus? Are we dishonest, do we miss represent Him? Do we really love , do we really forgive, do we serve for His purpose or our own gain? Do we walk our talk?
Jesus wants us to be authentic, the real deal. No showmanship , just raw honesty and a genuine love.
A place of prayer for all………let us be the ones to welcome all who enter into His House with a sincere and earnest representation of Jesus……Love.
” Friends love through all kinds of weather……” Proverbs 17:17 The Message
One of the things I love about the festive season, Christmas, is the motivation to catch up with friends where the business of life has intruded upon quality time. As another year draws to a close, and the beautiful spirit of this special time sinks into our being we are reminded of the true purpose of life. Relationship . We stop, and pause, pondering over the year spent. Who has shared our journey, who has travelled in a different direction, who have we lost sight of along the way ?
Just this week I was able to touch base with a special friend. Our lives have taken a very different path and our once weekly catch – ups have been all but non- existent . Work commitments and family responsibilities taking precedence.
An evening of coffee and cake ensued. We laughed and talked, filling each other in on all the happenings. The highs and lows, family, work , church and our spiritual walk. In those few short hours we were able to nurture our friendship. To re-connect and strengthen our relationship. We’ve been through a lot together, shared some of the darkest and most difficult periods, navigated seasons together , and experienced fun adventures. She is my Sista , our paths crossed, through His divine planning in order that we may DO life together. Learn from one another, encourage one another, and sometimes bring one another into check.
Friendship, true friendship lasts through all of life’s twists and turns, forges through hardship, misunderstanding, separation of time and distance and takes advantage of momentary intervals to invest in relationship.
” Friends come, and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family.” Proverbs 18:24
Reach into your heart, look into the special place where the emotions of friendship reside. Is there someone you are impressed to re-connect with, have you neglected to nurture a bond, do you need to forgive and mend a bridge ?
Friendship is not so much about what we can receive but what we can give. To contribute to another’s journey in an encouraging and positive way.
Don’t wait until tomorrow , be a friend today.
” The wrinkles of friendship are fine creases left by years of sharing tears and laughter- they are lines that add beauty and grace to this wonderful gift from God…….reminding us of the journey we could not have traveled alone. ”
